Why study the Book of Isaiah? The book of Isaiah is likely the most beloved prophetical book in the OT and for many in the entire Bible. Isaiah’s book contains some of the greatest prophetical proclamations ever written. It includes many of the great doctrines of the Scriptures such as the sovereignty, holiness, justice and other attributes of God. It reveals many prophetic details about God’s Son, who is portrayed as the great suffering Servant who bore on Himself the sins of the world. Isaiah prophesized about the Son’s miraculous birth, His first and second advents; of the Son being a covenant and bringing salvation to the ends of the earth and His future coming kingdom. Isaiah also revealed the future restoration of Jerusalem and Gods gathering His people from all nations to live in a peace and prosperity and the coming new heavens and new earth. Why study the Book of Job? The Book of Job describes the sovereignty of God in life’s most difficult and painful circumstances. The book explains that there is not always an answer to why people suffer. Believers are to completely trust God in all situations of their lives knowing He cares for them and will work out His loving plan for them. This plan may include hardship and suffering which believers are to endure for the glory of God. Job also unveils the unseen spiritual realm including the confrontation between Satan and God as well as God’s creation of the world as a beautiful masterpiece. Why study the Book of Ezra? The Book of Ezra describes the political, social and spiritual conditions of the people of God who returned to Jerusalem and Judah following the Babylonian captivity. The book reveals that God keeps His promises of restoring His covenant people although the conditions for these people were anything but easy or pleasant.
